Reimaging the built environment and method at which you live

The JBA design approach is rooted on this simple fact that no two clients are the same.  Therefore, no singular design method or architectural style can be applied to all projects. @ JBA we tailor our design process to provide architectural solutions beyond the dreams and requirements of our clients and project sites. At the onset of each project, JBA works with you to tackle all of your project related questions and concerns with our no commitment “project preparation review.” With your goals and ambitions clearly defined, we cater our services to customize your architectural design to excite, realize, and elevate your dreams.

Design beyond boundaries.

Contemporary Thinking

@ JBA we practice contemporary architecture, strongly believe in contemporary thinking, but not exclusively a contemporary style. We approach each project with research, a fresh perspective, and no preconceived design ideas or set aesthetics. Many architectural theories of the last two decades are based in the simple idea that a building’s form shouldn’t be separated from a building’s use.

Simply stated, the design of any space or building should support the use, needs, and desires of its users.

Architectural style should not be imposed or dictate how a building is used. As architects, this is a much more involved and challenging task. It requires deep research into understanding our client’s goals and personalities, and translating those aspirations into to an elevated design concept. There is no one size fits all. We analyze every element of your project from this same perspective. From overall site planning and building massing, to each small construction detail, our team approaches every aspect of your project with equal energy and an inquisitive nature customized to your goals.

Integrated Sustainability

While many firms claim to specialize in “sustainable” or “green” architecture, @ JBA we strongly disagree with this characterization. It is nothing more than an advertising tool. Our team is versed and practices the same advanced sustainable strategies, without allowing your project to be dictated by them. We call this “integrated sustainability.” Your project does not have to look “green” to perform as a “green building.”

There are many new advanced technologies and “green materials” to be considered throughout your project, but some of the most advantageous sustainable design techniques are centuries-old and cost nothing. Proper site planning, considering your local climate and solar orientation, natural ventilation, thermal mass, and proper material selection are just a few passive sustainable design techniques to consider. These techniques can drastically reduce the long term costs of operating your building and are contingent on the proficiency of your architect.

JBA is led by a LEED AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, Accredited Professional) and certified by the USGBC (United States Green Building Council). Without exclusively focusing your project solely “green architecture,” our team will inherently integrate sustainable design practices throughout your design project.

Materials and Technology

@ JBA we are passionate about utilizing and researching new materials, testing new digital design tools, and critically rethinking standard practices. The process of construction is very laborious and the industry is very slow to adapt to advances in technology. 99% of buildings built today still use century old construction techniques. Our team has extensive knowledge specifying and detailing the contemporary materials.

Working with cutting edge computation and design tools, we aim to not only advance your design, but expedite your construction process. Working with these technologies also allow us to better foresee and resolve crucial coordination and construction problems earlier in the design phases, saving time and cost. Additionally, we are equally passionate about critically rethinking the use of low-tech fabrication techniques and traditional materials. However, regardless of any tool or material, there is no substitute for innovate thinking.
