SHORTLISTED COMPETITION ENTRY, FEBRUARY 2018.
Our approach to the Beyond the Centerline competition aims to look past the prototypical
understanding of Manhattan’s urbanity, Park Avenue’s medians and public realm. The median, a
once underutilized ignored aspect of the city streetscape, remains stagnant, but still remains a
constant repeated frequency throughout the city. How can we ask more of this simple architectural
proposition than aesthetics and a minimal inaccessible greenspace? How can design become a driver
to ask new questions of human interaction and engagement between our personal, natural and built
environment? This very notion, and these very questions, is where the team began designing Median
Frequency.
