The proposal was a unique opportunity to blend history, social consciousness and architecture. The tower is sited on the existing Church of the Nativity. The existing structure was built at the eight of Modernism in the 1960s. The congregation was known for its social perspective and activism. Our task as architects was to design a progressive architectural statement, while preserving the church’s Modernist façade. The tower nests into the historic brick and concrete base, maintaining the church’s bell tower. The 11 story tower totals 54,000 sqft with a mix of commercial spaces, market and inclusionary housing units. Visualization by +TOM
